Organization

Founded in 2007, the So Cal Independent Fastpitch League (SCIFL) is a non-profit Public Benefit Corporation that is organized and operated exclusively for charitable purposes within the meaning of section 501 (c) (3), Internal Revenue Code and it is not organized for the private gain of any person.

SCIFL is an organized men's fastpitch league with a governing body consisting of seven members which makes up the board of directors. It has a three-man player classification committee and a constitution that it shall abide by to govern its play. It consists of six to thirteen teams based in Southern California which are sanctioned by the North American Fastpitch Association (NAFA) who annually hosts the largest men’s fastpitch softball tournament in the world. Fast pitch is considered the most competitive form of softball.

SCIFL abides by NAFA rules and guidelines and is currently the only traveling men’s fast pitch softball league in Southern California. It is divided into two leagues, Alliance and Masters.

The Alliance league consists of approximately five to eight tournament weekends in an open format to allow guest teams to participate. Each tournament consists of three or four game guarantee. The three game weekends will consist of a two game round robin that will seed teams into a single elimination bracket. The four game weekends will consist of a three game round robin that will seed teams into a single elimination bracket.

The Master’s league is comprised of players that are 40 years of age or above and follows the current NAFA rules for player eligibility. It plays one Sunday per month from March through August, depending on field availability and weather. The format consists of a three game round robin with all teams playing each other over the course of the season, regardless of age classification. For a two-day tournament, the format used is a two game round robin followed by a modified double elimination.

Annually, SCIFL hosts a NAFA sanctioned event called “The Las Vegas Road Trip” which is open to all fast pitch teams where participants are separated into three divisions: A, A-Major, and AA. The event uses the NAFA pitcher’s list to monitor pitchers in the tournament as well as the team’s classification – no open class pitchers are allowed to pitch in the event. The NAFA three-game guarantee bracket is used for all divisions.

The organization is quickly gaining popularity all around the United States. It is our goal to be a significant factor in men’s fast pitch softball in Southern California for many years to come.
