So Cal Independent Fastpitch League (SCIFL) opened the 2017 season at DeMuth Park in Palm Springs on March 25-26, 2017. There were ten teams that participated in the Palm Springs Classic with Morongo having three new teams of their own. The Buzzards from Taft, Ca. and Those Guys came down for their first tournament in Palm Springs.

On Saturday after the Round Robin was complete, Wah took the No. 1 seed going undefeated, followed by the Buzzards, A1 Rockies, So Cal Heat, Beaumont Coyotes, Those Guys, Maccabi USA, So Cal Bandits, Morongo, and California Athletics.

One Sunday, Wah began its run to the championship game by facing Those Guys. Rob Schweyer would start the game for Wah but would injure his ankle by the third batter in the first inning. He would leave the game and Anthony Loza would take the mount. Wah would go on to win the game 6 -2 and then would defeat Morongo 10 -1 before facing the Buzzards in the championship game.

The Buzzards started off their run to the championship game by defeating Beaumont Coyotes 5 – 3. Their next opponent would be the A1 Rockies, with Brandon Sharer facing off with Sonny Perkins.

A1 Rockies, Jason Obregon would start off the game with a leading triple and then would score on a pass ball. Sonny Perkins would allow one more run in the 3rd inning before shutting down A1 Rockies.

Brandon Sharer would keep the Buzzards off balance through three innings but then the Buzzards would score 3 runs in the fourth and 2 more in the fifth inning which helped move them to the championship game where they will face the number one seed, Wah.

In the championship game, Rob Schweyer would pitch for Wah on an injured ankle and Eloy Montoya would start for the Buzzards. There were no runs through the first three innings. In the fourth inning, Daniel Vaca would start the Buzzards off with a leading double, would advance on a passed ball, and then would score on a single by Nate Hiromerides. Schweyer would then strike out the next three batters.

Sonny Perkins would come in the game for the Buzzards in the fourth inning. In the fifth inning, Rudy Toro and Henry Schelb would both draw a walk for Wah. Rudy would score on a single by Sal Rated before Sonny Perkins is able to get out of the inning.

The game would go into international tie breaker. Mark Vail would start the Buzzards off with a leading single, scoring Steve Garcia from second base. Javier Fierro would move Vail over who would then score on a single by Michael Hatcher. Schweyer would then strike out the next two batters to end the inning.

Wah, Sal Rated would get on base on an error and the runner on second would advance to third. A wild pitch would score the runner from third and advance Sal to second. Sonny would strike out the next batter. The following batter would hit a fly ball into shallow left field that looked like it would drop, but here comes Javier Fierro running from short stop to make a behind the back catch, then threw the ball to second to double up Sal to end the game.

Buzzards would defeat Wah 3 -2 to be named Champions.
