Santa Fe Springs II

SCIFL heads back to Santa Fe Springs, CA where the remainder of the season will take place with the exception of the Las Vegas Road Trip IX. Temperatures were in the low 70’s making it a great day at the park. There were ten teams that participated in the first Santa Fe Springs tournament.

On Saturday, after the Round Robin was complete, Pala would take the number one seed going undefeated followed A1 Rockies, J&B, So Cal Heat, Beaumont Coyotes, So Cal Bandits, Las Vegas Aces, Those Guys, Budmen, and Maccabi USA.

One Sunday, Those Guys, a young team that have two members of the 2016 USA Softball Junior Men’s National Team, started off their run to the Championship game by facing their first opponent the Budmen who they defeated 5 to 3. Their next opponent was the number one seed Pala who they would defeat 4 to 2 in five innings. Their next opponent would be the Coyotes and they would defeat them 4 to 2 in five innings, as well. Those Guys had Lamar Gross in the pitcher’s circle against Pala and the Coyotes which would help them advance to the Championship game against J&B.

J&B started off their run to the Championship game by facing their first opponent the So Cal Bandits who they would defeat 7 to 1. Their next opponent would be Maccabi USA who they defeated 11 to 1 advancing them to the Championship game against Those Guys. Rob Schweyer would be the winning pitcher for J&B in both of their games.

In the Championship game J&B would start Rob Schweyer and Those Guys would start Jesse Martinez in the pitcher’s circle. Those Guys would score one run in the fourth inning and two in the sixth for a total of three runs. J&B would score two runs in the first inning, two in the second, three in the fifth, and one more in the sixth with the help of Eli Salazar who had two triples and one single, Jesse Palacios who had two singles and one triple, and Rob Schweyer with three signals. J&B defeats Those Guys 8 to 3 and are crowned Champions.

The next SCIFL tournament will head to Las Vegas in the Las Vegas Road Trip IX where there will be three divisions A, A-Major, and AA/AA-Major with a total of 32 teams participating in a competitive event. Teams from the USA, Canada, and Mexico will be represented.
