Championship Game Recap July 22, 2007

The Long Beach Black Sox won their 15th career tournament, 2nd consecutive SCIFL tournament win and 10th game in a row by beating The Panteras 10-4 and winning Santa Fe Springs II in amazing fashion. Ron Rupp appeared in all 5 games grabbing 3 wins and going 3-0 and also getting 2 saves. Fred Hanker led Long Beach to the victory going 2-2 with a HR and 3 RBI and 3 Runs scored. He also walked 2 times his 5th walk of the tournament. Angel Martinez the 19 year old phenom was 3-5 with a run and RBI. Tim Hunt continued his hot hitting going 2-4 with 2 RBI and a run. Chris Martinez added a 2-3 game with 2 runs and 2 RBI. Rupp appeared human for the first time in 2 tournaments allowing 2 earned runs. He would strikeout 6 and allow 8 hits in the complete game win.

The Sox would jump out early on Panteras starter Gerald Pyle. Tim Hunt led off the game with a walk. Jeremy Rooney executed a perfect hit and run with a single in the uncovered 4 hole. Fred Hanker than hit a long home run to left center making the score 3-0. The Panteras answered with 3 runs in the second. With 2 outs Dee Neeblas walked and Trino Ramirez reached on a error. Ben Munoz singled home Neeblas and Anthony Rocha singled home Ramirez and Munoz. In the Sox second Chris Martinez walked with one out. He would score on a Tim Hunt RBI single. The score after 2 innings was Long Beach 4-3. In the Sox 3rd the game was broken wide open. Fred Hanker and Dave Demaio walked to lead off the third. Ron Rupp than executed a perfect slash bunt scoring Hanker. Angel Martinez followed with a RBI single. Chris Martinez than closed out the scoring with another RBI single. The Sox took a comanding 8-3 lead after 3 innings. In the Sox 4th Fred Hanker walked his 5th walk of the tournament. With 1 out Andy Martinez had a RBI groundout to second to make the score 9-3 after 4 innings. In the Panteras 5th Anthony Rocha homered making the score 9-4 after 5 innings. In the Long Beach 6th Angel Martinez singled and scored on a 2 out single by Chris Martinez. The score was now 10-4 after 6 innings. Ron Rupp closed out the game making the score 10-4 giving Long Beach the victory.
