2013 Santa Fe Springs IV Tournament

MACCABI WINS THIER THIRD TOURNAMENT OF THE YEAR!

The 6th tournament of the year is complete and Maccabi USA takes their 3rd championship of the year in Santa Fe Springs with a 9-2 victory over the Pala Braves in a rematch of the second tournament of the season.  Maccabi went 2-1 in the round robin to take the 3rd seed in the single elimination.

Maccabi USA started the day early with an 11-0 win over Rude-Pac.  Jason Gluckman was in the circle for Maccabi USA and would stay there all day.  In the semi-finals they faced San Diego Primetime, who upset the number two seed earlier, by a score of 8-1.

This set up the championship game with the Pala Braves and Sonny Perkins in the circle for Pala.  Sonny also was throwing his third game of the day.  Maccabi USA jumped to an early 3-0 lead with their 1st three batters reaching base safely including a leadoff triple by Shaprio.  Spencer Silverstein had a double for an RBI in the inning as well.

There was no scoring until the top of the 4th with Mike Marble leading off the inning with a base hit and eventually scoring on a passed ball for a 4-0 lead.  Pala finally was able to get on the board with a Tyson Magginn home run with a runner on base to cut the lead in half.  Gluckman was able to get out of the inning leaving the bases loaded.

Maccabi USA Scored 3 more runs in the 6th and 2 in the 7th on Marble’s double to complete the scoring.  Both pitchers went the distance with Gluckman picking up his third win of the tournament.  Best of luck and safe travels to both Maccabi USA teams, as they leave in July for Israel to compete in the Maccabi games.

The Pala Braves finished 5th in the round robin with a 2-1 record.  In their morning game they faced Maccabi USA Masters with Perkins in the circle.  The game went through 6 innings with no score.  Pala was able to load the bases and Eloy Montoya hit a ball to third which couldn’t be handled to score the game’s lone run.  In their 2nd game they faced Balboa who also upset the number one seed earlier and won the game 5-0 sending them to the championship.
