With fewer teams participating, the two day tournament was reduced to a one day event. The format consisted of two games pool play followed immediately by a single elimination.

The Buzzards were impressive going 2-0 on the round robin earning the No. 1 seed into the single elimination. They kept right on rolling by defeating A1 Rockies 9-3 in the semi-final game setting up a title match with Maccabi USA.

Maccabi USA also went 2-0 on the round robin earning the No. 2 seed into the single elimination. They too kept right on rolling by defeating the So Cal Bandits 11-0 in the semi-final game setting up a title match with the Buzzards.

In the title game, the Buzzards would start Ron Mizener in the pitcher’s circle while Maccabi USA would give the ball to Mel – a new pitcher to SCIFL – before Gabe Three would come in to finish the game in the middle of the second inning.

The Buzzards would be the first to score on a double by Jason Obregon; bring in the leadoff batter Mark Vail after he had singled. Maccabi would score in the second inning on a single by Jeremy; bring in Mel after he had doubled. But, the Buzzards would score four additional runs in the second inning.

Maccabi would score another run in the third, and then in the fourth, Trout would blast a homerun to score the final two runs for Maccabi. Gabe Three would hold down the Buzzards for three innings.

The Buzzards would score in the sixth and finally in the seventh to defeat Maccabi USA 7-4 and would be crowned Champions for their first time.
