2009 SANTA FE SPRINGS III

BLACK SOX TOP PRIMETIME 8-4

The Long Beach Black Sox won their fourth tournament of the year with an 8-4 victory over San Diego Primetime in the Championship game.  Ronnie Rupp was in the circle for the Black Sox against Mitch Mendenhal.  The Black Sox jumped to an early lead and never gave it back, though Primetime kept chipping away.  In the end a double play ended the game and the championship.

The Black Sox went 4-0 on Sunday after taking the 7th seed with a 1-2 record in the round robin portion of the tournament.  In their first game of the day they were down 4-3 going into the last inning. Using a couple of walks and hit batters they tied the score, then took the lead and held off Flor de Cana for their first win.  In the next two games they scored early and held off first the Caribbeans (11-5), then the Panteras (9-3) to enter the championship game.

San Diego Primetime was the number one seed going into Sunday's single elimination posting a 3-0 record and allowing only one run on Saturday.  With the number one seed they faced the Palm Springs Express and jumped to a 10-0 lead.  Palm Springs wasn't quite ready to call it a day and the two teams proceeded to hit every run-rule and then break it before the game was finally called 19-11.  In the semi-finals Primetime faced the Savala Painters and won 5-1.
